Hospital social service activities


Medical/hospital social service is an activity through which the wPwKrmv system can be made complete and effective by removing as many obstacles as possible to the wPwKrmv of the patients treated in the hospital. The main objective of this program is to help the patient to cure the disease by identifying the problems that hinder the patient mentally and wPwKrmv msµvšÍ from receiving mental, social, economic and other facilities by providing all possible support to the wPwKrmK and the patient to solve them. Through this activity, it is possible to make a patient strive for his physical, mental and all-round welfare. Social work can play a Zvrch©c~Y© role in wPwKrmv cases.


The wPwKrmv social service activities are very important among the various welfare activities conducted under the Department of Social Services. This program was first started in Bangladesh in 1958. Currently, this program is being conducted in 90 hospitals in 64 districts of the country. As per the instructions of the present government, the work of forming and registering patient welfare associations in upazila health complexes in 419 upazilas has been completed with the aim of expanding wPwKrmv social service activities for wPwKrmv support of rural poor people, which are directly involved in the services of the oppressed.




Main objective of the activity




Focus on the patient's well-being with utmost importance to a patient's psychosocial aspects;


Providing patient and wPwKrmK‡K assistance in curing the disease by establishing rapport building with the patient by collecting his social, family and economic information;


Counseling and encouraging patients on healing and wPwKrmv;


act as a bridge between the patient and wPwKrm‡Ki;


Creating awareness among uneducated, ignorant patients about family planning, maternal and child health care, cleanliness and above all prevention of all forms of communicable diseases;


To remove superstitions, unnecessary fears about diseases from the minds of uneducated and poor patients and develop them mentally ready to take proper wPwKrmv at the right time;


Provide financial support to poor patients including medicines, diagnostic tests, food, blood, glasses, crutches, artificial organs (according to wPwKrmv regulations);


Allowing helpless children abandoned in the hospital to be admitted to the Baby Home (Chhotmani Nibas) operated under the Department of Social Services and arranging for rehabilitation of homeless, addressless people in various organizations and homes;


Allowing the elderly, indigent, disabled people coming to the hospital to be admitted to the government-approved institutions managed by the Department of Social Services;


Providing the necessary facilities to receive interest-free micro-loans by involving the destitute and indigent patients with rural social service programs, urban social service programs, rural maternal centers and other activities registered by the social service department through voluntary organizations;


Providing wPwKrmv support to those patients on priority basis in hospitals for senior citizen/disabled wPwKrmvi;


Solving patient's family problems, strengthening family ties, communicating with family (letters, telephone), assisting with travel expenses and home visits;


Provision of entertainment during hospital stay;


Writing, maintaining and following up case files of patients in hospital (social services officers involved in obtaining various wPwKrmv‡mev of patients) and


Arranging wPwKrmv mrKv‡ii of hospitalized anonymous, poor, dead.
